The short answer
ClearSky Heating & Cooling serves homes in Stanford, ZIP 94305, with AC and heating repair, furnace and heat pump installation, ductless systems, maintenance, duct cleaning and indoor air quality work. We explain every option and the current Bay Area equipment rules before you decide.
Stanford is an unincorporated community in Santa Clara County, about 14 miles west of our San Jose base, and it is served by a single ZIP code, 94305. ClearSky Heating & Cooling works on residential heating and cooling systems here, from emergency-feeling breakdowns to planned upgrades. Because the community is unincorporated, some homeowners are unsure who handles what, so we try to make the process simple: you tell us what is going on, we confirm the address is in 94305, and we schedule a technician. Climate here is typical of the Peninsula side of the valley, with mild weather much of the year, dry summers and cool, damp winters. That means heating usually matters at least as much as cooling, and many owners are now weighing whether a heat pump could replace both a furnace and an air conditioner. This page covers how to prepare for a visit, how the two main heating options compare and what we do for air quality.
Before your technician arrives
A few minutes of preparation shortens the visit and helps us pinpoint the problem.
- Note when the issue started and whether it happens all the time or only at certain hours
- Write down any error codes or blinking lights on the thermostat or furnace control board
- Clear a path to the indoor unit, whether it sits in a garage, closet, attic or crawlspace
- Locate the outdoor condenser or heat pump and trim back plants crowding it
- Have the model and serial number handy if you can find the equipment label
- Mention rooms that are uncomfortable even when the system seems to work
Gas furnace or heat pump: an honest comparison
A gas furnace produces heat by burning fuel and pairs with a separate air conditioner for cooling. It delivers warm air quickly and is familiar to most homeowners. A heat pump moves heat rather than making it, providing heating in winter and cooling in summer from one outdoor unit. In a mild, Bay-side climate like this one, where winter nights are cool but rarely severe, a properly sized heat pump handles the load comfortably.
Regulations are shifting the balance too. Under Bay Area Air District Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx emission standard, which in practice leads most replacements after that date to heat pumps. The rules do not require you to remove a working furnace; they apply only when equipment fails or is replaced. So the right time to switch is usually when your current system is aging or needs a major repair.
On costs, the federal 25C tax credit covered heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025, and it is not available for new installations after that. BayREN and your local clean energy provider may offer current incentives. Because funding cycles change, we confirm what is active before including any incentive in a quote.
Repairs and installations we provide
Our Stanford services include AC repair, heating repair and furnace repair, along with AC installation, furnace installation, heat pump installation and ductless mini-split installation. Mini-splits are useful for rooms the central system underserves, such as a study over the garage or an enclosed porch converted to living space. Regular HVAC maintenance keeps any of these systems running efficiently and lets us flag worn parts before they fail.
Air quality and duct health
Older homes often have ducts with years of dust, gaps at the joints and insulation that has slumped or torn. Those gaps can draw air from attics and crawlspaces into the living area. Duct cleaning clears accumulated debris, and an inspection shows where sealing would make the biggest difference.
For indoor air quality, we look at filtration first. Upgrading to a higher-efficiency filter can capture more pollen, dust and smoke particles, provided the blower and ductwork can handle the added resistance. We check that before recommending a change, and we can discuss ventilation if a home feels stuffy or holds onto cooking odors.
